Workplace Health Promotion
Workplace wellness programs are recognized by more and more companies for their value in improving health and well-being of their employees.
They are part of a company's health and saftey program. These programs are designed to improve employee morale, loyalty and productivity.
They could consist of a gym full of exercise equipment that is available to their employees on company property during the workday as well as on site healthy meals.
But they may also cover health risk assessments, and health screenings such as cholesterol check, cardiometabolic check, smoking cessation programs, nutrition, weight, etc ...
The WHO (World Health Organization) defines Workplace Health Promotion as follows:
The workplace: A priority setting for health promotion
The workplace, along with the school, hospital and city, has been established as one of the priority settings for health promotion into the 21st century.
The workplace directly influences physical, mental, economic and social well-being of workers and in turn the health of their families, communities and society.
It offers an ideal setting and infrastructure to support the promotion of health of a large audience. The health of workers is also affected by non-work related factors.
